Understanding SAP CX AI Assistants

Category

SAP is continuing to expand their AI capabilities through Joule, their enterprise AI copilot. While many organizations are familiar with AI-powered content generation and automation, SAP is extending Joule with AI assistants and agents designed to support business processes across commerce, sales, service, loyalty, and marketing.

The SAP CX AI Framework

At the center of SAP’s AI strategy is Joule, which serves as the intelligence layer across SAP solutions. Within SAP Customer Experience (CX), Joule enables AI assistants that are designed around specific business outcomes. These assistants are powered by specialized AI agents, each responsible for a specific task or capability. Instead of relying on a single AI model or workflow, assistants can coordinate multiple agents and connect information across systems to support more complex business processes.

This shift represents an evolution from passive AI to proactive tools that initiate day-to-day tasks and workflows.

A Growing Selection of CX Assistants

SAP has introduced a growing portfolio of Joule Assistants across customer experience, including commerce, sales, marketing, and service. The current CX portfolio includes assistants like Shopping, Merchandising, Order Management, Sales, Deal Qualification, Deal Closing, Case Management, Self-Service, Campaign, and Content.

Each assistant addresses a different business process, applying this framework to a specific workflow. The range of assistants gives a glimpse into how SAP is applying AI across different areas of CX. A few examples help bring the approach to life.

Shopping Assistant

One example is SAP’s Shopping Assistant, which is designed to improve the buying journey from product discovery through purchase. The assistant is backed by five specialized agents:

  • Site Personalization Agent – uses shopper behavior, context, and intent signals to tailor site content and layouts in real time.
  • Promotions Personalization Agent – dynamically optimizes promotions based on inventory, demand, and shopper intent.
  • Conditional Purchasing Agent – monitors defined pricing and timing and automatically completes purchases for shoppers when specific criteria are met.
  • Commerce Order Capture Agent – creates pre-populated carts, interprets order emails, and resolves product availability and pricing.
  • Shopping Orchestration Agent – uses shopper intent to enhance search, recommendations, cart, checkout, and agent routing.

The combination of these capabilities can help businesses turn shopper intent into transactions, personalize the experience at each touchpoint, and capture more revenue through the purchase journey.

Merchandising Assistant

The Merchandising Assistant focuses on the processes behind the shopping experience, helping commerce teams manage and optimize product and assortment information. The assistant is backed by six specialized agents:

  • Commerce Product Content Scoring Agent – identifies gaps and guides AI-assisted enrichment by evaluating product data quality and readiness.
  • Commerce Product Content Optimization Agent – optimizes and evaluates catalog wide product content quality, structure, and attributes for your storefront.
  • Product Demand Identification Agent – uncovers unmet demand, assortment gaps, and product misalignment by analyzing search behavior.
  • Retail Product Evaluation Agent – uses reasoning criteria to evaluate supplier feeds for new products to be introduced.
  • Retail Product Attribute Enrichment Agent – accurately enhances product information by extracting, inferring, and validating data from external sources.
  • Retail Assortment Agent – determines the best initial store placement for new products by analyzing article attributes, demand signals, and substitutions.

The Merchandising Assistant can help teams improve product discovery, continuously optimize product content at scale, and use demand signals to inform merchandising and assortment decisions. These capabilities can help businesses keep product information relevant across search and storefronts while responding more effectively to changing customer demand.

Sales Assistant

SAP’s AI capabilities also extend into sales with the Sales Assistant, which is designed to support sellers as they work with customer and sales information. The assistant is backed by four specialized agents:

  • Meeting Insight Agent – helps accelerate deal progression by capturing meeting insights and next steps.
  • Email Insights Agent – generates leads, quotes, and orders by scanning emails for insights and automated actions.
  • Deal Manager Agent – refines forecasts and drives follow-up actions to ensure deals stay accurate and on track.
  • Pipeline Risk Analysis Agent – detects pipeline risks with the help of AI to improve forecasting and revenue predictability.

For sales teams, the value comes from reducing manual work while making it easier to act on the signals that matter. The Sales Assistant can automate tasks like opportunity updates and meeting follow-ups, surface next-best actions, and identify pipeline risks, helping sellers spend more time on high-value interactions while giving teams greater visibility into pipeline health and forecast accuracy.

What This Means for SAP CX

The growing portfolio of assistants reflects the breadth of SAP’s approach to AI across CX as they move to power the “autonomous enterprise”. While each assistant is designed for a specific business function, they share the same underlying framework of Joule, assistants, and specialized agents working together to support business processes.

When AI can work with the data, processes, and systems that teams already rely on, it can move from providing information to helping teams act on it. As SAP continues expanding Joule Assistants and Agents across CX, the focus will increasingly be on how these capabilities can support specific business outcomes while keeping people at the center of the decisions that matter.
