Why We Use the PXL Scoring Framework for CRO Roadmapping 

When it comes to A/B testing and Conversion Rate Optimization, the hardest part isn’t coming up with ideas—it’s deciding what to test first. That’s why we use the PXL scoring framework to build our testing roadmaps. It gives us a structured way to prioritize experiments based on likely impact and effort, without letting personal opinions or internal bias drive the decision-making. 

At its core, PXL forces every test idea to earn its place. Instead of asking, “What do we think will work?,” it asks a better question: What does the evidence suggest will make the biggest difference with the least amount of effort? Each hypothesis is scored against clear criteria like visibility, page traffic, and the size of the proposed change, helping us focus on tests that are both noticeable to users and meaningful to the business. 

What is the PXL Scoring System? 

The PXL scoring system is a simple, structured way to evaluate and rank A/B testing ideas. Each proposed test is scored across three core dimensions: potential impact, confidence based on evidence, and ease of implementation. Instead of using vague 1–10 scales, PXL relies on mostly binary (yes/no) questions, which keeps scoring consistent and reduces subjectivity. 

Test ideas earn points based on factors like how visible the change is to users, whether it affects high-traffic pages, and whether it’s supported by qualitative or quantitative research. Additional weighting is applied to elements that tend to drive outsized impact, such as noticeable changes or low-effort implementations. The final score makes it easier to compare ideas objectively and prioritize the tests most likely to deliver meaningful results efficiently. 

Why We Like It  

The framework requires both qualitative and quantitative research to be part of the conversation. Insights from user testing, surveys, session recordings, heatmaps, and analytics all factor into the score. Ideas backed by real user data naturally rise to the top, while opinion-only ideas fall lower on the list. Over time, this creates a more disciplined, data-informed optimization culture across teams.
